About Milton Ernest Village Hall

Village Hall History

Milton Ernest Village Hall has a rich history that goes back to its official opening on 8th September 1959, by Sir Frederick Mander, Chair of Bedfordshire County Council. It was funded through the proceeds of the annual gymkhana, an event started by Ernest Page. Before this, the village had to rely on the local school and an old forge building for its community functions. The new hall provided a dedicated, proper venue for these events, serving as a focal point for the village’s social life.

Today, the Village Hall is still a central part of community life. It is used daily by Milton Ernest Lower School, and it serves as a meeting place for the Milton Ernest Parish Council. Local groups also use the hall for activities such as Pilates, and dancing. It hosts many village events and is available for hire for various occasions.

The hall continues to be run as a charitable organisation by the Village Hall Committee, which ensures that the hall remains a valuable community asset for people of all ages. It can cater for up to 140 people, making it a versatile venue for gatherings and celebrations.

It is central to the village with excellent access from main A6 and ample parking plus an outside grassed area. It is available for hire seven days a week, has a raised staged area, and is an ideal venue for Meetings and seminars, tuition classes, wedding receptions, Parties, Dances, fund raising and community events, craft fairs and bazaars.

The Hall has been extensively refurbished in recent years and further improvements are being made in early 2025 with floor refurbishment and decorating.
